If both parents share custody does anybody pay child support?

It’s possible for there to be an exchange of child support even when the parents share custody — even if they have a true 50:50 time share. And that’s because of the way that child support as calculated takes into account a couple of –really, when it comes down to it– two factors: the incomes of the parents in the amount of time that the parents have with the children. So if you have a true 50: 50 arrangement where, let’s say a real primitive one where the children are spending one week with one parent; one week with another, and mom earns twice as much as a dad does, mom’s going to be paying dad some child support.
